Dryer Duct Repair & Maintenance in Ottawa

Fires caused by poorly maintained dryer units and ductwork are a leading cause of home fires in Canada. In addition to being dangerous, equipment that is not maintained will run less efficiently, adding to your utility costs and reducing the life of our appliance. Dr. Duct provides complete repair, maintenance and cleaning services for both you dryer, ductwork and vents to ensure efficient and safe operation. We look for, and address the follow items:

Correct and efficient airflow

  • To maintain proper airflow pressure, 4” ducting must be used on dryer systems.
  • Keeping ducting straight and airtight is essential to optimize airflow.
  • Dryer units should be installed as close to the exterior vent as possible; less ducting is better.
  • Loops, bends, and excess ducting drastically reduce airflow and create areas of lint buildup.
  • Keeping the dryer’s lint trap clean before or after each load is the best way to reduce lint buildup inside your dryer unit and ducting.

Exterior venting

  • To maintain proper airflow pressure, 4” ducting must be used on dryer systems.
  • Keeping ducting straight and airtight is essential to optimize airflow.
  • Dryer units should be installed as close to the exterior vent as possible; less ducting is better.
  • Loops, bends, and excess ducting drastically reduce airflow and create areas of lint buildup.
  • Keeping the dryer’s lint trap clean before or after each load is the best way to reduce lint buildup inside your dryer unit and ducting.

Piping conforms to all current fire codes

  • To meet current fire codes, plastic piping cannot be used on dryers.
  • All dryer piping must consist of heat resistant materials (e.g. non-flexible Galvanized Piping for electric dryers, non-flexible Aluminum Piping for gas dryers, or flexible aluminum piping for either).
  • Our flexible piping is constructed of heavy duty, fire resistant, aluminum foil laminate with a corrosion resistant wire helix. It will not support combustion.
  • We ensure all ducting is airtight.
  • All ducting is installed with no obstructions that may catch lint (screws, improper screening, other debris or blockages).

Interior Dryer Unit Cleaning

On an average dryer system, approximately 80% of dryer lint stays in the lint trap screen, 10% gets trapped inside the dryer unit, 5% stays in the ducting, and only 5% reaches the outside. It is important to have the dryer piping and dryer unit cleaned every 2-3 years. Excess lint buildup can be a serious fire hazard.

Cleaning the lint from the interior of a dryer unit can increase efficiency (drying clothes faster), improve air flow (less lint gets trapped in the ducting), and improve the life expectancy for the unit (preventing overheating and excess stress on interior components).

We clean out the dryer unit using high pressure, compressed air (250psi). We clean the dryer unit from the lint trap tray, pushing the lint out through the rear outlet and into our vacuum. We blow out the interior fan from the rear, as well as the interior/exterior venting. We vacuum any loose lint or debris dislodged during the cleaning from the drum (inside portion where the wet clothes go) and around the work area.
